Non-Isothermal Multi-Component Reactive Transport Model for Unsaturated Soil – Some Numerical Aspects
نویسنده
چکیده
A multi-component reactive transport model, coupled to an existing thermal, hydraulic and mechanical model is investigated. The model is based on conservation of mass/energy principles for the flow and stress strain equilibrium for the mechanical behaviour. The resultant model is coupled to a geochemical model in order to capture geochemical interactions. Numerically, the Galerkin finite element method is employed for spatial discretisation and an implicit Euler method for temporal discretisation. The coupling between the transport and geochemical models is achieved via both non-iterative and iterative approaches. A series of applications are considered to demonstrate the numerical performance and qualitative behaviour, specifically in the context of multi-component behaviour. The model shows good stability, convergence and computational efficiency.

A Mathematical Model for Predicting Isothermal Soil Moisture Profiles Using Finite Difference Method
Subgrade moisture content varies with environmental and soil conditions and has significant influence on pavement performance. Therefore, it is important to establish realistic estimates of expected subgrade moisture contents to account for the effects of this variable on predicted pavement performance during the design stage properly. The initial boundary soil suction profile for a given pavem...

This paper presents results of a numerical investigation of soil vapor extraction (SVE) systems at the laboratory scale. The SVE technique is used to remove volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons (VCHC) from the water-unsaturated soil zone. The developed numerical model solves equations of flow, transport and interfacial mass transfer regarding an isothermal n-component and three-phase system. The m...

A new fluid property module, EOSRn, was developed for TOUGH2 to simulate the transport of the radon gas (Rn) in saturatedunsaturated soils. It is an enhanced version of the EOS7R module for radionuclide transport, with a source term added in the transport equation to model radon generation by emanation from radioactive decay of the soil radium (Ra) content. We implemented physical properties of...
